A Who’s Who of the international architecture and design industry

From the outset Artemide’s founder Ernesto Gismondi worked closely with some of his most talented contemporaries. He wanted to give architects and designers a platform for realising their own lighting designs. Now, after his death, this is an approach that his wife Carlotta de Bevilacqua is maintaining. Early partners included Ettore Sottsass and Michele De Lucchi, and in the last few decades they have been joined by several other big names in international design. As well as the visionary lights and lighting systems that Gismondi and his wife developed, with their designs leading figures in the sector such as Richard Sapper, Jean Nouvel, Neil Poulton, Ross Lovegrove, Herzog & de Meuron and Bjarke Ingels Group – to name just a few – have contributed to the huge success of the Artemide brand as well. In doing so they not only ensure a diversity in design, but in culture as well. For example the Shanghai-based duo of architects Neri&Hu have presented a reinterpretation of traditional Chinese lanterns with their nh family of lights.
