Floating lightness

Italian joie de vivre, energy and lightness have found a form: Pirce, the multi-award-winning family of lights that invigorate every room.

Pirce is not just a light. For designer Giuseppe Maurizio Scutellà, it embodies the sum of exactly what drives him: emotion, dynamism and art.

The sculptural, coated aluminium shade looks delicate, like a paper cut-out with its intricate disc seeming to float in the air. Its soft waves flow into a flat dish that hides the light source illuminating the rings and creating an impressive play of light and shadow. At the same time, the design provides glare-free, indirect illumination.

Pirce immediately won some of the leading design awards: the iF Product Design Award, the Good Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award – reason enough to develop a product family from this captivating idea. Pirce comes in different-sized pendant, ceiling and wall lights in purist white or glamorous gold.

In the pendant version, the light fixture floats freely in the room. Depending on the angle from which it is seen, its silhouette changes, allowing new lighting effects to continually appear. Pirce Ceiling is fitted directly into the ceiling, but this does not hamper the interplay of light and shadow. For Pirce Wall the design was scaled back, but there’s no denying that it’s a member of the Pirce family.

Pirce fits into (almost) every situation. Thanks to mini and micro modules on a reduced scale, they also work in smaller spaces. Designer Giuseppe Maurizio Scutellà really has created a light sculpture of floating lightness.

The designer: Giuseppe Maurizio Scutellà

The lighting specialist was born in 1962 in Alcamo, Sicily, and initially designed die-cast and plastic moulds before celebrating his international breakthrough with the Pirce light in 2008. It embodies Scutellà's sculptural thinking. The designer has been associated with Artemide ever since. He followed it up three years later with the Alcatraz floor lamp.
