Naturally sustainable

At Artemide, sustainability has been part of our make-up for over 60 years.

Environmental awareness is a marathon, not a sprint. For more than six decades, Artemide has been committed to a humanistic vision, a combination of “scientific research, production and technology, coupled with the values of ecological and social sustainability”, as stated by CEO Carlotta de Bevilacqua in the Sustainability Report 2022.

Right from the start, light was always more for Artemide than simple illumination. The company philosophy “The Human and Responsible Light” stands as much for the role of light in human well-being as for the awareness and effects of light on our environment. In 2019, Artemide joined the Global Compact of the United Nations to promote, together with all its employees, a path of solid and sustainable development.

Sustainability is the basis of the overall strategy and day-to-day work of the company. Between 2017 and 2022 alone, the indirect CO2 emissions were reduced by around 99 percent to 23 tonnes currently. A look at the fifth externally commissioned and independently compiled Sustainability Report 2022 provides additional impressive data:

• Artemide recycles 90% of its waste (P.225)

• Artemide manufactures over 95% in Europe (P.191)

• Artemide uses over 30% renewable materials (P.193)

• Artemide produces 700kW solar energy in Milan alone (P. 207)

• Artemide is comprehensively certified: ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 (P.210)

Artemide relies on cutting-edge technology and combines innovation, quality and design. Over 135 patents since 1960 and around 300 design awards underpin this claim. After all, only lamps with the highest energy yield, perfect design and durability are truly sustainable. They can make a crucial contribution to improving the quality of human life and our relationship with the environment. Light is life. It makes our world visible, ensures well-being and supports spatial perception. All these areas are covered by the three collections Design, Architectural and Outdoor with their high-quality lamps and lighting solutions.

Founder Ernesto Gismondi, an enthusiastic engineer and designer, put the message across with remarkable clarity: “We do not live on light bulbs alone, we live on innovations that are not just about technology. The primary focus is on innovative thought.” Today, that does not just apply to the patented Integralis-Technology, but is also at the heart of the Artemide brand and its commitment to sustainability.
