When it gets cold, we like making things a bit cosier. This year, on top of red candles, red ribbons and red Santa, there are even suitable lights. In red, of course. It brings out a whole new side to lots of design classics.
Tizio 50th anniversary special edition – limited to 5,000 copies
For many, it is the epitome of the modern light. Richard Sapper’s Tizio, designed in 1972, is always perfectly balanced in any situation. Now in Richard Sapper's favourite colour red, the classic conveys emotion – like a burst of energy for this dark time of the year. Richard Sapper wanted a puristic look without cabling, supplying power through its moveable arms. To prevent anyone from getting a shock, he used an extra low voltage halogen bulb. So all that’s electrifying is Tizio’s slim look.
Nessino – Christmas Edition 2022
This cult light in the form of a jellyfish was created by architect and designer Giancarlo Mattioli and the Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova. Nessino is the new edition of the Nesso designed in 1967, which has long featured in leading design collections such as that of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Nessino also happens to be one of the most frequently photographed Artemide lights on Instagram and our Christmas Edition 2022.
Eclisse – controllable star lighting
In Eclisse (solar eclipse), design legend Vico Magistretti created one of the most fascinating lights of the modern age. The two bowls can be moved independently. The bulb disappears as if there is a (partial) solar eclipse, changing the light intensity – a bit like a precursor of the dimmer. In red it cuts a dash next to more than just the advent wreath.
