A review of 2022 seen through our lights

We don’t know how historians will view 2022, but we’re convinced that despite the precarious situation in the world, there were glimmers of hope. Here’s our review of the year...

Hugs and sheer joy. After a two-year hiatus (due to Covid ;-), some 2,000 exhibitors and designers from all over the world came to Milan's traditional Salone Del Mobile to show off their fascinating designs. It was such a relief to meet people again in person. We were particularly excited by Ixa. Its magnetic spherical head was a star attraction – it can be adjusted in every direction with just a touch of the hand. Equally nimble, Stellar Nebula was really popular with visitors too. This family of lights combines unique hand-crafted items with series-production quality. Each piece is unique – just like the various different discussions we had at the trade fair.

Whether we were meeting at Triennale, Orgatec or A@W, we were all keen talk to other people again. And often was it the unexpected encounters that stayed in the memory for many of us. One particular highlight was the Architects Talk at Light+Building featuring Carlotta de Bevilacqua, Mario Cucinella, Jakob Lange and Christian Heuchel. It was inspiring, just like the illuminated letters in AoL (Alphabet of Light), whose mini edition we exhibited – ideal for children's bedrooms and landings. At 35.5 centimetres tall they now look really impressive even in smaller spaces. We also liked the flexibility that comes with the portable battery-powered light Takku, which at the same time serves as a power bank for charging mobile phones (an incredible help not just at trade fairs).

Light adapts to people’s needs, not the other way round. That’s our message from a challenging year when sustainability and responsibility took on a whole new meaning. Not for nothing does ARTEMIDE’s Human and Responsible Light stand for quality, environmental responsibility and commitment to work and health protection. We wish you a wonderful New Year!
