Artemide was named after the goddess Artemis, one of the most important deities in Greek mythology and the goddess of hunting, forests and the moon. She is also the twin sister of Apollo, the god of light, who happened to give his name to NASA’s Apollo space programme that first took man to the moon. That the USA’s next moon mission planned for 2024, during which the first woman will be landing on the moon, bears the name Artemis was something that the visionary space engineer and Artemide company founder Ernesto Gismondi could not possibly have known when he named his company in the 1960s.
