Eclisse

Eclisse means solar eclipse and the reference to astronomy is the theme of this classic lamp from 1967: The interior semisphere with the illuminant can be swivelled into the exterior one allowing the brightness to be variably adjusted. To a certain extent, the mechanics of the lamp are a precursor to today’s dimmer – allowing the phases of a solar eclipse to be playfully simulated. The form is typical of 60s Italian design. Eclisse is on display in many design museums and is a component part of the Artemide Masters’ Pieces collection. The new colour versions, gold, copper, chrome and black underline the timeless nature of this iconic lamp which, as a shining light and collector’s item, fits perfectly into every stylish ambience.

Vico Magistretti

Vico Magistretti was one of the most influential designers of the post-war period – and one of the founding fathers of modern Italian design. Following his studies in Milan, he worked as an architect from 1945 before focussing on the design of decorative items for the home from the late 60s onwards. For Artemide, he created such iconic lamps as Dalù or, in 1967, the masterpiece Eclisse. Vico Magistretti would have turned 100 in October 2020 – and Artemide is marking the centenary by reinventing the Eclisse, one of his best-known lamps from the Artemide Collection, in four new colour versions.
